Chris Owens
Director
A Native Floridian, Chris is no
stranger to Barbershop Harmony. He sang lead with a quartet called "Not So
Much" and baritone with a quartet called "Vibe" which won the
Sunshine District Novice competition at the 2007 Sizzle . He is also sang with
the Academy chorus and holds now directs both the Lemon Bay Chord Company and
the Sarasota "Chorus of the Keys". Chris' sons Ben and Noah both play
in his bands at Heron Creek Middle School in North Port. Ben
also sings in both choruses.
Barbershop Harmony is a family affair with the Owens family. His wife, Lana,
sang baritone with such quartets and groups as "In the Mix" a region 9
SAI quartet champion in 2007 and currently sings with the "Toast of
Tampa" Show Chorus a Sweet Adeline Barbershop chorus. Their oldest daughter
Becky plays the Oboe and Mellophone in the North Port High School Band program
and their youngest Abbie is an aspiring pianist.
Chris earned a Bachelor's degree in Music and Music theory and a Masters Degree
in Music Performance and Ministry. He has been involved in Music Ministries
full-time for 16 years and part-time for 4 years. He has been the Band Director
at Heron Creek Middle School in North Port for 4 years.
Lemon Bay Barbershop Chorus welcomed Chris Owens to the group as their new director
in August of 2008
